A Call for Artists
The Woodstock Symphony Orchestra will present
“PICTURES AT AN EXHIBITION”
Art exhibit and associated concert
At the Woodstock Playhouse
Saturday, March 22nd, 2025
“Pictures at an Exhibition” is an orchestral composition in several movements by Russian composer, Modest Mussorgsky. Each movement is based on a picture by artist Victor Hartmann shown at the Imperial Academy of the Arts in St. Petersburg in 1868.
The WSO is inviting artists to create a piece, in any medium, that has a relationship to one of the movements in the piece or to the piece as a whole (titles of the movements are shown below). Works will be on display at the Playhouse Gallery, at WSO concerts and at other Playhouse events between March 22 and May 3rd, 2025. The show will be viewed by concert goers and art lovers alike.
The movements are:
Promenade, Gnomes, The Old Castle, Tuileries, Bydio,
The Ballet of Chicks in Their Shells, Samuel Goldberg and Schmuyle,
The Marketplace at Limoges, Catacombs, The Hut on Hen’s Legs,
The Great Wall of Kiev
